About
Pieter Torrez is a marine biologist and information designer based in Ghent, Belgium, with a passion for transforming complex data into visually captivating stories. His work bridges science and art, translating the hidden dynamics of the ocean into meaningful visual experiences. Through his project nove, Pieter translates intricate ocean mathematics into mesmerizing motion art, merging science, design, and technology to reveal the hidden beauty of marine systems.
With a master in Marine Biodiversity and Conservation and expertise in data science, information design, and procedural 3D art, Pieter bridges the gap between analytical research and creative communication. His work draws from disciplines such as R-based data visualization, GLSL shader programming, and Adobe design tools, resulting in elegant infographics and immersive ocean-inspired visualizations.
As a web builder and multimedia artist, Pieter crafts digital experiences that make scientific knowledge accessible to broader audiences. Beyond visuals, he also explores the emotional depth of the ocean through ambient electronic music and modular synth performances, creating audiovisual narratives that flow between art and science.
